B12 Injections

Why Vitamin B12 Matters

Vitamin B12 contributes to:

  • ✅ Reduced tiredness and fatigue

  • ✅ Normal brain and nerve function

  • ✅ Healthy red blood cell formation

  • ✅ Immune system support

  • ✅ DNA synthesis and overall wellbeing

You may be at risk of B12 deficiency if you:

  • Follow a vegetarian or vegan diet

  • Have digestive conditions (e.g. coeliac disease, Crohn’s)

  • Are over 50

  • Take certain medications such as metformin or antacids

  • Have had gastric surgery or suffer from malabsorption

  • A blood test is not always required before treatment, especially if you have clear symptoms or known risk factors. However, testing is recommended to confirm deficiency and guide ongoing care. We offer B12 blood testing in clinic for an additional fee if you'd like to check your levels.

  • Our B12 Injection Service

At Alan James Clinics, we use hydroxocobalamin, the B12 injection recommended by the NHS and NICE. It is given intramuscularly by qualified healthcare professionals.

    How it works:

    • A quick appointment (usually 10–15 minutes)

    • Administered safely in our clinic setting

    • Many patients notice a difference within a few days

Depending on your needs, you may require a single injection or a course over time. We will guide you based on your medical history, symptoms, and – where applicable – test results.

  • Booking Options

To ensure safety and suitability, we offer two appointment types:

    • 🩺 Initial B12 Consultation (New Patients) – £65
Includes a full health review. If appropriate, your injection can usually be given at the same appointment.

    • 💉 Standard B12 Injection (Returning Patients) – £40
For patients who have previously received B12 treatment with us.

  • Risks and Side Effects

Vitamin B12 injections are very safe for most people. However, as with all treatments, some side effects can occur:

    Mild (and usually short-lived):

    • Soreness or redness at the injection site

    • Headache or dizziness

    • Mild diarrhoea

    Rare:

    • Allergic reaction (very rare – may include rash or breathing difficulty)

    • Low potassium levels (in cases of very severe deficiency correction)

We assess all patients carefully to reduce any risk and ensure that B12 is a suitable option for you.
